The recent events surrounding Somer Thompson in Orange Park, Fla. serve as a reminder that we must work harder to provide our children with a safe and secure childhood.
To keep the mission of Children's Safe Passage moving forward, we held our first organizational meeting on May 18, 2010. After reviewing where the organization has come in the past few months, we set both short-term and long-term goals for the group.
Short Term
Organize, train and certify teaching officials to conduct mobile Child Lures Prevention education seminars at community centers, churches and schools.
Begin fundraising and logistics initatives for a golf tournament at Palencia Golf Course on October 18, 2010.
Long Term
Bring the Child Lures Prevention educational programs to every school age child in Northeast Florida and a part of the standard curriculum.
Significantly increase participation in neighborhood watch programs with an emphasis on awareness and prevention of violence against children.
In addition to the founding members of Children's Safe Passage, we also welcomed three new volunteers to the Children's Safe Passage mission: Ron Natherson, Donis Horne and Angela Taylor.
